Greenshires gets ‘greener’ with Casepak

The objective

Casepak was commissioned by Leicester-based Greenshires, one of the UK’s largest printed marketing material suppliers, to help improve its waste management system. The company’s existing infrastructure lagged behind its competitors, meaning much of its waste was entering landfill unnecessarily. Its dated waste management equipment had also become unreliable.

The solution

Casepak supplied Greenshires with a comprehensive and bespoke waste management programme and updated range of equipment to process its recyclable materials. This included installing a high-specification waste extraction system and filter from Impact Air; two Thetford compactor units, including a T3 model with rear-loading facility; a Pakawaste Powerkube semi-automatic baler; and a Pakawaste VB56 vertical baler.

The outcome

Greenshires’ environmental credentials have received an impressive boost following Casepak’s services.
As a result of Casepak installing separate bins, Greenshires is now able to separate cardboard and plastic from its waste stream. Greenshires carried out an extensive environmental education programme to explain to staff the importance of separating waste and, as a result, it received £50,000 from Casepak in the first year of the partnership for the material which has been recycled.

Enabling Greenshires to separate its waste effectively reduced the number of collections of office waste each week by a third, saving the company money.

Casepak solved problems arising from waste management procedures at the site. Outdated balance fans had created a noise problem for nearby residents, and led to the emission of dust fibres. Working alongside Impact Air, Casepak supplied Greenshires with an up-to-date system which prevents dust escaping into the atmosphere, instead recycling by cleaning it and using it to warm the buildings.

Overall this has meant that the printing firm has retained its ISO14001— the industry standard for control and improvement of a company’s environmental impact.

Jonathan Green, Greenshires’ production manager said: “Greenshires involvement with Casepak has been beneficial to us from day one. Its recommendations were far in excess of what anyone else could offer.”
