Casepak launches local authority conference to improve recycling performance

Leicestershire-based recycling company Casepak will use its state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) to host a conference for local authorities to share best practice knowledge and discuss methods to improve recycling performance.

The ‘Five Step Approach to Improved Recycling Performance’ conference will take place on Wednesday 27th June, 2012. The conference has been specifically developed to help those responsible for improving local authority recycling performance and associated communications.

Kevin Thomas, Director, MRF Operations, for Casepak said: “It is vital for the recycling industry as a whole that we share our operational experiences and research to spread best practice and improve the quality of outputs supplied to UK reprocessors.

“Technology alone will not deliver the improvements and efficiencies needed to recover more materials, but education and shared knowledge can help to bridge the gap and improve recycling performance and quality in the UK.”

The conference will provide an opportunity to share best practice and identify new opportunities for improvements. It will also focus on how to get the best out of MRFs based on Casepak’s experiences over the past few months.

Speaking at the conference are:
• Kevin Thomas, Director of MRF Operations, Casepak, who will consider the challenges faced by local authorities and recycling companies in delivering good quality recovered materials to UK reprocessors and provide an overview of the key criteria in delivering best practice.
• Steve Waite, Sector Specialist, Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), who will deliver a presentation on the latest MRF performance statistics.
• Ray Georgeson, Chief Executive, Resource Association, who will explain how effective local authority collections can contribute to closing the loop and establishing a green economy.
• Kevin Pegg, Group Manager Neighbourhood Services, Blaby District Council, who will describe the steps taken by the council to improve recycling performance and outcomes.

The conference will be followed by a networking event at Leicestershire County Cricket Club where delegates will enjoy a Twenty/Twenty match between Leicestershire and Yorkshire.

Casepak operates the UK’s most technologically advanced MRF which came on stream in September 2011 and was officially launched in January 2012 by Lord Taylor. The £21 million facility has the capacity to process 150,000 tonnes of materials a year at a speed of 26 tonnes per hour, recovering 95% of the material processed as a resource.
