Casepak has been asked to help Artisan Press achieve its target of zero waste within the next 18 months. Casepak has provided waste management solutions to the company for the last 30 years, recycling paper, plastic polythene and general waste.
Artisan is one of the UK’s largest, fully independent web offset printing specialists. The company prints an impressive array of catalogues, magazines and brochures 365 days a year and requires 24 hour support as well as efficient and effective waste management. All of their waste management services have been provided by Casepak.
Casepak supplies independent waste handling systems across all three of their sites including both extraction and compaction systems. These have been continuously upgraded in order to accommodate upgrades of Artisan’s production machinery and reduce waste storage space.
As part of Casepak’s commitment to helping Artisan Press achieve its zero waste goal upgrades were recently undertaken to the waste extraction system to accommodate a new high speed bindery machine. The £100,000 investment provided a dual compaction system for continual running as well as a segregation process which enables the dust to be briquetted as Refuse-derived fuel for supply to an Energy-from-Waste facility.
In line with Artisan Press’s zero waste objectives, Casepak has been asked to look at all areas of waste minimisation and recycling opportunities at the company. This will include continuing to recycle all paper, card and plastics created by the printing process, but also general office waste and food waste created by Artisan’s staff.
The rapid expansion of Casepak’s services in the last five years has resulted in Artisan achieving 90% diversion from landfill. Casepak is confident that Artisan will achieve its zero waste goal during 2013.
